Sometimes Raya eats sugar, usually mixed in with another food like granola bars or candies or cereal. Sugarbeet farmers in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana (where Raya's grandparents are from) produce a lot of sugar. And sugarbeets are even grown right here in Canada, in Alberta. But sugar also comes from Asian countries like the Philippines. Raya knows the Philippines is far away because her cousins used to live there.
